PROJECT NAME: | The new Pere IV route |
TOWN/CITY: | Barcelona – Spain |
LOCATION: | Carrer de Pere IV |
OPENING DATE: | June 2018 |
The reurbanisation and infrastructure works on the stretch of Pere IV between Carrer de Roc Boronat and Carrer de Bilbao have achieved a pleasant route designed for pedestrians with a single lane for wheeled traffic, a bike lane, wider sidewalks, new street furniture and lighting and pneumatic waste collection. The complete transformation of the Pere IV route is being carried out in phases, continuing with the stretch between Rambla de Prim and Carrer de la Selva de Mar.
Need and project objectives.
One of the basic requirements justifying the project was the revitalization of the Pere IV route. No work had been done on this important through-route in Poblenou, which until now has carried three lanes of traffic, since 1967.
The proposed solution.
The action removes the three lanes for wheeled traffic and replaces them with a one-way street in the Besòs direction that includes one lane for traffic and another services lane intended for loading and unloading areas, parking for motorbikes and other services, on the same side as the sea. There is also a bike lane segregated with ZICLA’s Zebra® 13 separators.
