City of Olympia, WA, tests innovative solutions for its transit system and implements a Vectorial® system platform.

The city of Olympia’s Transit Agency is committed to sustainable mobility. Intercity Transit is a municipal corporation that provides public transportation for people who live and work in Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and Yelm. Intercity Transit’s mission is to provide and promote public transportation choices that support an accessible, sustainable, livable, healthy and prosperous community.

Need and project objectives.

Intercity Transit has launched “The One” demonstration route in Olympia, WA. This experience will allow bus users to travel between city of Lacey and West Olympia in half the time when riding this route. The buses on this route run every 15 minutes, Monday through Friday, from 5:30 to 9:30 am and 2:30 to 6:30 pm.

“The One” connects or provides access to several other Intercity Transit routes. It connects with other transit systems and Intercity Transit bus routes adjacent to the Olympia Transit Center. About 27,000 people live or work within a quarter mile of a “One Stop”.

The proposed solution.

200123 Vectorial Olympia WashingtonAs a consequence of the expected increase in the number of passengers on this route, Intercity Transit has implemented Vectorial® system bus boarder platform at one of its stops to improve the service’s accessibility and comfort for all passengers.

Its configuration is as it follows:

  • 1 Vectorial® system platform in boarding bulb stop configuration, which is 33 feet long and 9 feet wide. It also features 12 modules with a yellow-colored tactile warning surface to signal the boarding and unboarding areas of the bus stop to make it fully accessible to all its users.
