Five temporary bus stop platforms in Zurich, Switzerland, with the Vectorial® system.

PROJECT NAME:Vectorial® system in five temporary bus platforms in Zurich.
CITY:Zurich, Switzerland
LOCATION:Stadelhofen Station, Kreuzplatz, Klusplatz, Balgrist.
INSTALLATION DATE:February 2024

The Civil Engineering Department and the City Transport Company of Zurich are reviewing the tram tracks, which has required the creation of temporary bus stops to cover the original service. To ensure accessibility at the bus stops, they needed a solution that involved raising the road height with a platform that met the project’s temporary requirements. Therefore, the installation and uninstallation needed to be simple, without the need for civil works or traffic interruptions.

To address this challenge, the Civil Engineering Department and the City Transport Company of Zurich contacted our distributor in Switzerland, BURRI Public Elements, to meet the project’s requirements with our Vectorial® system platforms.

Need and objectives of the project.

The city of Zurich needed to create five temporary bus stops for tram replacement buses at Stadelhofen station and other locations in the city. Among the requirements for this six-month project were:

  • Cost-effectiveness.
  • Sustainability.
  • Ease of installation and removal (reversibility).
  • The possibility of reusing the elements of the bus stop at other locations later on.
  • To ensure accessibility at the temporary bus stops in compliance with Swiss BehiG regulations.

This configuration helps optimize bus service and improves the bus stop’s accessibility.  Additionally, it allows for quick installation and removal since it is an easily reversible product, recommended when the space occupied by the bus stop is not connected to the sidewalk.
