| PROJECT NAME: | Bus platform with integrated bike lane at Plan Vélo 2024-2030. |
| DATE: | March 2025. |
The city of Palaiseau has promoted the development of a two-way bike lane on rue Gutenberg with the goal of advancing toward more sustainable mobility as part of its 2024-2030 cycling plan.
The “Plan Vélo 2024-2030” is based on three key points: developing high-quality cycling infrastructure and improving road safety, establishing incentives that fully recognize bicycles as a relevant mode of transport, and promoting a cycling culture through communication and awareness campaigns. The bike lane on rue Gutenberg is another piece of this strategy to expand the city’s cycling network and promote coexistence between pedestrians, cyclists, and motorized vehicles.
Project needs and objectives
The city of Palaiseau needed to improve urban mobility, road safety, and accessibility for all users of rue Gutenberg. To achieve this goal, the project focused on integrating the new bike lane with public transport, especially with the bus, ensuring comfortable and safe coexistence between bike lane users and bus passengers.
Proposed solution and implementation
To carry out the project, the city of Palaiseau chose our Vectorial® bus platform with integrated cycle lane. This configuration provides a shared space for bus users and bike lane users. When a bus stops, pedestrians have priority over bike lane users, and the platform ensures better accessibility for passengers boarding and alighting at the bus stop. In addition, with this configuration, bike lane users can safely cross the bus stop area without leaving the bike lane.
To indicate that the platform is a shared space for both bike lane and bus users, a classic checkerboard pattern was used, combining black modules with painted white modules from the Vectorial® system. Pointer® Flex vertical delineators were also installed in this project to improve the visibility of the Vectorial® system platform.

Community engagement
The city of Palaiseau wanted to actively involve citizens in this pilot project. To do so, it implemented a citizen participation format that allows residents to share their opinions and experiences with the new infrastructure built in the city. The feedback received will be used to promote improvements in the future.
