Grand Chamb\u00e9r<\/a>y has built a temporary, protected two-way bike lane on Avenue du Comte Vert as part of its cycling safety policy.

This pilot project on Avenue du Comte Vert is part of a plan carried out jointly by Grand Chamb\u00e9ry and the City of Chamb\u00e9ry<\/a> to reorganize the area known as \u00c9toile du Stade, located at the intersection of Avenue du Comte Vert, Avenue Jean-Jaur\u00e8s, Avenue Alsace Lorraine, and the stadium roundabout.

This set of spaces constitutes a strategic gateway to the center of Chamb\u00e9ry for residents of the northern part of the metropolitan area. The area serves as a residential, commercial, and transportation hub that supports heavy daily traffic, especially during peak hours, and plays a key role in the city’s urban mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Needs and Objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grand Chamb\u00e9ry needed to reorganize traffic flows in the area mentioned above in order to strike a balance between protecting the most vulnerable road users and maintaining parking availability in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The specific objectives of the project were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022   \u2028To improve safety for cyclists and users of personal mobility devices in an area of heavy traffic.
\u2022   \u2028To reorganize traffic flows on a strategic access route to the city center.
\u2022   \u2028To opt for a temporary solution and study its performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To meet these objectives, Grand Chamb\u00e9ry decided to create a temporary, protected two-way bike lane that would address safety and mobility needs, while allowing its performance to be evaluated before permanent intervention.

To separate the bike lane from motorized traffic, Grand Chamb\u00e9ry opted to install Zebra Family\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> cycle lane separators and to use Pointer\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> Flex traffic delineators to clearly indicate intersections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizen participation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand Chamb\u00e9ry wanted to involve citizens in this pilot project through a specific citizen participation program that allows residents to share their opinions and experiences of using the new infrastructures built in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
