It crosses the city along 11 kilometres between Ronda de Dalt and the F\u00f2rum area.<\/p>\n<h2>Project requirements and objectives.<\/h2>\n<p>The biggest problems on the avenue were related to the overcrowding of private motor vehicles and the fact that pedestrians and bicycles did not have enough space.<br \/>\nThe configuration of the avenue was as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A central roadway with three lanes of traffic in each direction and one bus lane in each direction.<\/li>\n<li>Two lateral roadways with two lanes each.<\/li>\n<li>Two lateral pavements and two boulevards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The reform\u2019s objectives for the section between Plaza Francesc Maci\u00e0 and Paseo de Gracia five years ago were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To widen the pavements to increase safety and accessibility for pedestrians.<\/li>\n<li>To increase the use of bicycles.<\/li>\n<li>To make the use of public transport more convenient.<\/li>\n<li>To revitalise the avenue as a commercial hub.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The proposed solution.<\/h2>\n<p>The reform led to enlarging the pavements to a width of 7 metres, creating motorcycle parking on the roadway, increasing the available space at bus stops and implementing two one-way cycle lanes on the lateral roadways.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16896 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zicla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/1_Zebra9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" title=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zicla.com\/familia-zebra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zebra\u00ae 9<\/a> cycle lane separator was used for segregating the cycle lanes.
