In many cities, ensuring a proper approach of the buses to the bus stops and guaranteeing accessibility at these bus stops is still a challenge. In many cases, buses must perform several maneuvers to pull in close to the sidewalk, which leads to longer bus dwell times, slow traffic flow, and service delays, while also compromising accessibility and safety of users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This issue is more common in complex and dense urban environments, where bus stops are located between parking places or coincide with bike lanes or shared spaces used by different modes of transport. If this problem is not resolved, it will have a negative impact on both the efficiency of the service and the accessibility and safety of bus users. One way to solve this issue is to extend the sidewalk toward the center of the roadway, so that when the bus arrives at the stop, it does not need to maneuver and can stop directly next to the sidewalk, making it easier for passengers to board and alight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This can be achieved without permanently altering the street configuration by using Vectorial\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> bus platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pittsburgh Regional Transit<\/a> promoted a project within the NEXTransit Downtown Plan<\/a>, which aimed to modernize and reorganize the public transport system in the downtown, reducing delays on entry and exit routes. To achieve this, Vectorial\u00ae<\/sup> system bus platforms were installed at several strategic locations across the city, improving service flow and accessibility at bus stops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arbon, CH.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city of Arbon<\/a> (Switzerland) launched an autonomous bus service as part of its efforts to modernize its public transport infrastructure.

To facilitate passengers boarding and alighting on this new service, nine Vectorial\u00ae<\/sup> bus platforms were installed at strategically located bus stops throughout the city. This enabled to provide an efficient bus service while improving accessibility at bus stops for citizens.

Cerdanyola del Vall\u00e8s \u2013 Ripollet, ES. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barcelona Metropolitan Area<\/a> (AMB), in collaboration with the municipalities of Cerdanyola del Vall\u00e8s and Ripollet, promoted a traffic-calming project on the N-150 road aimed at improving sustainable mobility and road safety.

The project included the implementation of a bus lane, the reorganization of urban space, and improved connectivity between municipalities, enabling smoother and more efficient bus operations and reducing travel times.

As part of this project, the relocation and reinstallation of Vectorial\u00ae<\/sup> bus platforms played a key role in reinforcing bus services into the new urban mobility scheme. In addition, four new Vectorial\u00ae<\/sup> bus platforms with integrated bike lanes were installed, enhancing multimodal coexistence and improving accessibility and safety for both, bus users and bike lane users.
