The City is in the process of identifying next steps to prioritize and implement the recommendations of the Plan (<a href=\"http:\/\/houstonbikeplan.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Bikeways Program)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By 2027, it is expected that the City of Houston will be a safer, more accessible, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeleague.org\/content\/new-platinum-new-gold-bicycle-friendly-communities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gold Level Bike-Friendly City<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve Safety\u2013\u00a0To provide a\u00a0<strong>safer bicycle network\u00a0<\/strong>for people of all ages and abilities through improved facilities, education, and enforcement<\/li>\n<li>Increase Access\u2013\u00a0To create a highly\u00a0<strong>accessible, citywide network\u00a0<\/strong>of comfortable bike facilities that connects neighborhoods to transit, jobs, and activity centers, including schools, universities, parks, and libraries<\/li>\n<li>Increase Ridership\u2013\u00a0To exceed average\u00a0<strong>ridership<\/strong>\u00a0levels in peer cities by implementing policies and programs that enable more people to ride bicycles and encourage healthy, active transportation choices<\/li>\n<li>To develop and maintain ridership\u2013 To\u00a0<strong>develop and maintain a high-quality bicycle network<\/strong>, including both bikeways and end-of-trip facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>The update to the plan.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The City of Houston Planning &amp; Development Department in coordination with the Department of Public Works &amp; Engineering and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department led the update to the plan.\u00a0To develop the plan, the City worked with its funding partners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikehouston.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BikeHouston<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/houstonparksboard.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston Parks Board<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li>Houston-Galveston Area Council,<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transit.dot.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Transit Administration<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhwa.dot.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Highway Administration<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.txdot.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas Department of Transportation<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Public input was gathered throughout the planning process.
