{"id":1196,"date":"2015-05-13T15:58:44","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T15:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zicla.notonlywebs.com\/en\/?p=1196"},"modified":"2022-11-08T15:32:03","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T14:32:03","slug":"west-australian-zebra-separators-form-bike-lanes-freo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zicla.com\/en\/blog\/west-australian-zebra-separators-form-bike-lanes-freo\/","title":{"rendered":"The West Australian: Zebra\u00ae separators form bike lanes in Freo."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zicla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Logotip-the-west-australian.jpg\" alt=\"logotip-the-west-australian\" width=\"335\" height=\"213\" title=\"\">The cycle track separator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zicla.com\/en\/zebra-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zebra\u00ae<\/a>, has been installed in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/au.news.yahoo.com\/thewest\/a\/27880191\/armadillos-form-bike-lanes-in-freo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">city of <strong>Fremantle<\/strong> in <strong>Western Australia<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as part of an\u00a0investigation to determine the best and most efficient type of bike lanes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Armadillos are invading Fremantle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1198\" style=\"width: 666px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1198\" class=\"wp-image-1198 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zicla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Zebra-en-Australia.jpg\" alt=\"Armadillos form bike lanes in Freo\" width=\"656\" height=\"403\" title=\"\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-1198\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Armadillos form bike lanes in Freo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Not the South American mammal with the armour shell &#8211; though that is what they look like from above &#8211; but a new type of barrier for bike lanes.<\/p>\n<p>And they are being tested along Parry Street as part of an investigation by the City of Fremantle to determine the best and most efficient type of bike lanes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re going to look at a number of road treatments to decide which one is the safest for cyclists,&#8221; Fremantle mayor Brad Pettitt said. &#8220;The armadillos represent quite a simple, and at about $60 each, an inexpensive way of creating a bike lane.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Drivers who accidentally drift into a bike lane will soon realise the mistake they have made.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And the armadillos are spaced so cyclists can exit and enter the lanes as necessary.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The armadillos, which are bolted to the road, have been successfully installed in cities across Europe and the US for several years.
