The Egurbide project stems from the need to seek an improvement in the competitiveness of the companies in the carpentry and furniture sector in the municipalities of Etxebarri and Basauri (Vizcaya).
Egurbide background and objectives.
Within the framework of the global project, promoted by Behargintza Basauri-Etxebarri and in which 6 companies from the carpentry and furniture sector participate, the improvement of waste management and the application of circular economy strategies were identified as opportunities for increased competitiveness of these companies.
One of the objectives of the project has been the improvement of waste management of companies in these sectors through the application of circular economy strategies.
Tasks developed by ZICLA in the Egurbide project.
ZICLA has been able to collaborate in the project as an environmental consultant who has a long background in innovation in the recovery of waste and recycled materials and in the development of circular economy projects. The work has been a study of the current state of management of the 6 participating companies and the sector in general. The result has allowed the development of a road map with concrete proposals for the improvement of waste management, applicable and transferable to the entire sector and aligned with the principles of the circular economy.
Thus, ZICLA has been able to develop the following concrete activities:
- Identification of the typology and origin of the waste generated by each company participating in the Egurbide project and estimation of the amount of waste generated by the whole sector in Basauri-Etxebarri in a general way.
- Search for more sustainable alternatives for improving management based on circular economy criteria, such as green purchasing, reuse, eco-design and / or environmental traction of the value chain.
- Proposal for a Plan for the improvement of waste management and the application of circular economy strategies in Egurbide companies, seeking global and transferable solutions to the sector.
The Egurbide project has been funded by Behargintza Basauri-Etxebarri, the municipal service for the promotion and improvement of employment and competitiveness.
