The Barcelona Metropolitan Area has expanded its bus fleet with electric and hybrid vehicles. Some of these new vehicles are longer than the existing ones. This makes more difficult for the driver to bring the bus to the stop in a way that ensures safe boarding for all the users of this form of transport.
Some municipalities have needed to adjust some of their bus stops. For example, Hospitalet de Llobregat and Santa Coloma de Gramenet in Barcelona have several bus stops with a Vectorial® platform installed. To adapt them to the current situation more pieces have simply been added to the existing platform or the initial configuration of the pieces modified. That way the bus stops have been adapted quickly and easily.
All this work has had two clear objectives: firstly to make easier for the driver of the bus the maneuver the bus on approach to the stop, secondly, to improve the accessibility of the stops.
