  • East 4th Street, Cleveland, Ohio, US.
  • Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya.
  • Northshore, Chattanooga, Tennessee, US.
  • Superilla del Poblenou, Barcelona, Spain.
  • Rua Nova do Carvalho, Lisbon, Portugal.

These are the five transformations that Project for Public Spaces highlighted in one of its articles.

Many cities are adding to this change in order to create kinder, more accessible streets for their citizens. In the last month the congestion pricing measure that NYC will be implementing to regulate the circulation of private vehicles in the city center has been in the spotlight.

Since the Superilla was created, Barcelona has become a leading city in terms of peaceful streets. This model of urban planning consists of unifying nine existing blocks, and allowing private vehicles to drive only in the surrounding streets outside this new, bigger block. This frees the crossroads inside it for bicycles and pedestrians.
