ConBici Herramienta Climática – Ni Un Paso Atrás.
During the first half of 2024, we collaborated with ConBici on its project “ConBici Herramienta Climática – Ni un Paso Atrás”, aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and raising awareness about the importance of maintaining and improving cycling infrastructure as key elements in the energy and climate transition.
As part of this project, the cycling advocacy coordinator prepared a report assessing the state of cycling infrastructure in various Spanish cities. At ZICLA, we contributed our expertise by collaborating on the design process of the assessment form used for the report, with a special focus on aspects related to the maintenance of cycling infrastructure.

Additionally, we had the opportunity to host Belén Calahorro at our stand during the Velo-city 2024 event held in Ghent, Belgium, this past June. There, she presented the report’s findings to attendees at this prominent event dedicated to promoting cycling and developing the urban mobility sector in Europe.
This initiative allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of bicycle users and the challenges faced by our cities and public institutions. Understanding these realities is essential to developing solutions that will foster more sustainable and inclusive mobility in the future.
Moreover, exploring the current state of cycling infrastructure in Spain has been crucial for highlighting the importance of maintaining these networks. Many cities that have embraced cycling have networks that are 5 to 10 years old, and their continuous maintenance and improvement are essential to extending their lifespan and ensuring the safety of all users.
Our participation in this project reflects ZICLA’s commitment to contributing to the development of safer, more sustainable, and accessible cities, always through a collaborative approach.
Collaboration with the Urban Cycling Institute
In 2024, we collaborated with the Urban Cycling Institute (UCI) to facilitate the participation of two of its students in the Velo-city 2024 conference, held in Ghent, Belgium, this past June.
The Urban Cycling Institute stands out for its work in creating more inclusive cities, with a primary focus on bicycle mobility and amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities in urban design.
Since 2009, ZICLA has been dedicated to collaborating on the development of safer, more accessible, bike-friendly, and inclusive cities. We are convinced that the way cities and their inhabitants’ needs are studied is fundamental to achieving this goal. For this reason, collaborating with the UCI and supporting its work represents an important step toward creating better cities by integrating research with the implementation of the solutions identified.
